About Kemi

“Every child deserves a champion, an adult who will never give up on them, who understands the power of connection, and insists that they become the best that they can possibly be. Rita Pearson

I am a London-based BACP registered Child and Adolescent Therapist with 15+ years experience working with children, young people and their families.

I am committed to making a meaningful difference in children and young people’s lives by championing and supporting their mental health. I work with a range of mental health difficulties and barriers to young people’s wellbeing such as marginalisation and racial trauma. When children and young people feel seen and heard, they thrive.

We All Have Mental Health

If I had a magic wand, I would use it to remove the negative connotations sometimes associated with the words mental health. We all have mental health in the same way we all have physical health. We can all need help with our mental health sometimes and that is perfectly ok and should be normalised and accepted. Investing in our children’s mental health can break generational patterns, build their resilience, provide them with emotional language to express themselves and give them a solid foundation from which they can thrive.

Cultural Competency

It is important to me that cultural competency is embedded in all I do and I therefore strive to have a good understanding of the challenges that individuals from marginalised communities experience. Being culturally competent is an ongoing learning process with no final destination. We can never be done learning about people and the role their culture and identity plays in their lives. My aim is to acknowledge, respect and affirm the intersectionality of young people’s identity in my work and be as inclusive as I can in my practice.

Working with Organisations & Professionals

I am a workshop facilitator, trainer and speaker on a range of mental health topics, including relationship and behaviour as communication. I offer therapeutic consultations to organisations on their antiracism and inclusion practices to cultivate an authentic culture where everyone feels connected and supported. I have a special passion for and extensive experience working in schools, including in school senior leadership and offer trauma informed consultation to schools on developing their mental health, wellbeing and inclusion practices.

Kemi is a kind and passionate person and has a wide knowledge on the issues of mental health. Some of her tips have been useful to help me support the vulnerable young girls I work with.”
